LiL Fireman

Camp is obsessed (not even sure if that word best describes it) with anything fireman related. He loves firemen, fire trucks, Fireman Sam and anything else linked to (as he says) "Fire, Fire." Camp has a fireman's hat that he keeps in the car and wears everywhere. The only place I don't allow the hat is at church on Sunday mornings. Other than that, he wears it to PDO, restaurants, play dates, mall, playground etc. My parents took Camp to the fire department and he loved it. He got to play on the trucks and meet real fireman.

1 & 2 Months and more

OK...I'm totally behind on blogging for I haven't had access to a computer in really about 3 months. So, I'm going to begin catching up on blogging because it's something I really enjoy doing. I love being able to look back and see all the memories. Here's Kate 1st and 2nd month:

The first month with Kate was what I expected (physically with baby), but hard (emotionally). Since Kate was born exactly when I turned 37 weeks, she acted very much like a preemie. She did pass the preemie test (whatever it is) at the hospital and therefore didn't have to have more tests or stay longer. Most newborns do sleep a lot, but Kate slept 24/7. She didn't move a lot. The Dr.'s said she really wouldn't act like a true newborn until she was closer to her due date. This was so true!! Right at the beginning, she slept through the night. I had to wake her up to feed her. I was hoping that we hit the jackpot with a great sleeper from the beginning...uh NO!!

Of course, even though, I knew what to expect, the first two weeks were still survival mode and I was still an emotional wreck. Those hormones never cease to amaze me after birth. I will say that we had company every week and that was so nice. It was awesome because all our family and visitors helped with Camp. It was so nice to have help with him, other wise I have no idea how we would have survived!!! This time around I needed visitors to help with my toddler and I took care of the baby. Where with the first child everyone's helping with the newborn. It did get lonely, just Kate and me. I spent most of my time feeding her and trying to get her to gain weight. This took me away from Camp, Blake and everyone.  It was nice once we got into a routine so that I could be back with my boys!! Camp didn't seem to miss me to much for he was so overstimulated and entertained by all the guests we had. I would here him ask for me and that would send me into tears!!!

Kate weighed 7.2lbs, 20 inch, newborn diaper and newborn clothes. (Camp weighed 11lbs, 22 1/2 inches, 3mth clothes and 1 diaper.)
Eyes are blue
Pretty good amount of hair that is brown and blonde

Second Month:

Weight 10lbs, 21 inches (Camp 13.6lbs and 25inches)
Moving into3 mth clothes and 1 diapers.
She's awake more and eyes wide open.
Eye are blue.
Losing hair on top. Still blonde and brown.
Takes bath in plastic tub now. She loves her bath!!
Had shots and did well.
She likes her paci.
She loves the vibrating seat. She's not a fan of the swing or play mat. Camp was the opposite. He disliked the lamb chair and loved the swing and play gym.
-Kate is a gassy baby and this wakes her up a lot.
-She eats 4 times a day; and awakes usually twice during the night.
-She really only cries when she's hungry or gassy.
-Most of her clothes are pink. She may own everything polka-dot!!
-A bow headband is a must!
-She finally sleeps in her crib at night, but has a hard time with it during the day. She's not a good napper unless it's in the living room around everyone. Just something about during the day, she does not like her crib. She has to be swaddled when sleeping. Once more Camp was the opposite and hated being swaddled.

When I had Camp, I was right on schedule with naps etc. Not so much with the second baby. Kate just has to adapt and go. Camp has play dates, PDO and other activities she adjusts and naps through.  Most of my friends have 3+ kids, so all our play dates are like at 9am/10am. Then we leave to get home, eat lunch and kids nap in the afternoon. Both of my kids go down at 2pm for nap.

With the first one, a night of sleep was no big deal. I just caught up on sleep when Camp slept during the day. This time around, a night of no sleep-is just that. I have to be up in the morning when Camp gets up. Ultimately, there's no time to go back to bed because there's another child to take care of.  There's breakfast to make and then off to do errands or whatever I have planned for Camp. I've become accustomed to drinking a lot of coffee to make it through some days of me having no energy.

I have to say that Camp is the sweetest big brother. He loves Kate. He's done it on his time though. He didn't want Kate pushed on him. He kisses and talks to her when he wants to. He calls her, "Baby Cake."

I have to admit that Kate gets held a lot!!!. With Camp, he was on the perfect schedule and I was going to make him independent etc. Follow the books!!! Now, since I know how quickly the time goes by, I just want to hold on to Kate and savor the time. Before I know it, I'll blink and she'll be 2 years old.

OK...so having a girl is different!! A. she's high maintenance, B. the clothes can be overwhelming, C. I'm learning how to order and make bows/headbands, D. there's just this overwhelming feeling of protection  with a girl (She'll never date!!!) What I mean by this is with a boy you are raising a protector/provider so you let him jump, climb, and rough play. But with a girl, she's like a flower-dainty, beautiful and fragile.

Since we have no family around us, I've really had to jump in this second month and do things with two sooner than I would have liked. You gotta get out there sooner or later!! I've learned to always park next to the buggy holders at stores. It's just easier with two!! I get Kate out first and then Camp. I've traveled with both kids twice by myself to and from Asheville (4hrs). We can only travel between 1-4pm. Basically, cars packed, feed Kate, all aboard and get out by 4pm to feed again. I'm an expert at diaper changing and feel like I do it constantly!! Somehow newborns STILL  have tons of laundry. I've heard many people say it before and it's so true, " the newborn is easy, it's the toddler you need instructions for"-ha!! I heard a lot of people say this and it's so true, "the hardest thing about going somewhere, is just getting out the door." I start preparing 30 minutes before we leave.
